Target Audience: Compliance Officers, QA Team, Nurse leaders including new or experienced DONs, ADONs, Charge Nurses, Unit Managers, Staff interested in serving in a permanent or interim DON role, Administrators, and Department Heads
This 6-week session begins in November and will focus on skill building for the facility Compliance Officer (or compliance program team) on how to establish an effective Compliance Program. Topics will move beyond program basics to include guidance on driving a robust compliance & ethics program in the SNF/LTC/AL settings.
Training will address:
• Developing a program framework and manual
• Developing compliance culture through program promotion and training
• Ensuring board reporting and training requirements are met
• Conducting investigations
• The compliance risk assessment
• Work plan development including auditing and monitoring activities to address high risk areas
• Forming and leading the compliance committee
• Program documentation and integration with the facility QAPI program

NOVEMBER 3 - SNF Compliance & Ethics Programs 101
This session focuses on the fundamentals of an effective Compliance & Ethics program in the SNF/LTC/AL setting including the essential framework of a successful program that meets regulatory standards and the contents of the program manual.
NOVEMBER 10 - Spread the Word! Compliance Training & Promoting the Program
This session focuses on promoting a robust compliance program that is integrated throughout the organization through effective promotion and staff training. Methods of communicating program goals, reporting concerns, and developing a culture of compliance will be covered along with an outline of the contents and recommended schedule of staff training
NOVEMBER 17 - Current Hot Topics in Compliance
This session covers conducting a compliance risk assessment and developing a work plan that considers current hot topics in compliance for the SNF/LTC industry.
DECEMBER 1 - Compliance Core Activities: Committee Functions, Auditing & Monitoring
This session reviews core activities of an effective Compliance and Ethics Program in the SNF/LTC/AL setting including operation of a compliance committee and implementation of auditing and monitoring functions.
DECEMBER 8 - Compliance Core Activities: Reporting & Investigations
This session focuses on the requirements and best practices related to systems for reporting potential compliance violations and provides direction on performing effective compliance investigations.
DECEMBER 15 - Compliance Operations: Board Oversight, QAPI Integration & Record Keeping
Operational considerations for the Compliance & Ethics Program will be addressed in this session including ensuring appropriate involvement of the Board of Directors, Integration with QAPI program and effective record keeping.
