Welcome Back Teepa Snow!
It's been four years since Teepa Snow has presented to LeadingAge Connecticut and we are excited to welcome her back. Teepa Snow is one of America's leading educators on dementia and her teaching style is extraordinarily unique in that she is able to accurately demonstrate and model for her audience the struggle and challenges dementia creates for all parties involved.

Attendee Comments From Past Teepa Snow Programs:
"Outstanding. First time I have heard this level of understanding from a presenter."

"She is right on the dot with dementia. When she was talking I started remembering residents with same actions. I did what she said and it works."

"Teepa should go to every nursing home in Connecticut...actually the country and educate all who work with individuals with dementia!"

Program Information:
This all day program will do a deep dive into two important dementia related topics: fall prevention and effective communication strategies. Attendees will leave with practical hands-on skills and strategies to reduce or minimize unproductive conversations and resistive behaviors as well as ways to enhance functional mobility.

Enhancing Mobility and Reducing Fall Risks
This session is designed to help learners engage in successful programming to enhance functional mobility. This will be accomplished through the use of a variety of effective techniques based on level of brain change, environmental support, caregiver support, and use of personal preferences and life experiences.

The program will provide learners with practical hands-on skills and strategies that have been shown to be effective with individuals living with varying amounts and types of brain change.

Coping with Challenging Situations in Dementia Care By Using Effective Communication Strategies
This session is designed to help care partners better understand why the person they are trying to help may at times exhibit ‘challenging behaviors.’ It will focus on looking beyond the disease to recognize other possible factors that may be causing or contributing to the challenges.

Care partners will be introduced to the ‘six pieces of the puzzle’ that may be used to help determine these contributing factors. This problem-solving approach will be presented to help learners reduce the intensity, frequency, or occurrence of challenges.

This session will also help learners develop better communication skills when working with people living with dementia by emphasizing the value of empathetic and supportive communication. The overall goal of the session is to reduce or minimize unproductive conversations and resistive behaviors by using effective verbal and physical skills.
