Violence in the Workplace & Active Shooter Preparedness Webinar

A webinar presentation in partnership with LeadingAge Pennsylvania.

This webinar will t each you to understand the basic principles associated with violence, the cost of workplace violence, and the volatility cycle. We will examine the five warning signs of
escalating behavior and learn to apply an appropriate response to the situation. This course will also identify tips to help you de escalate a volatile situation. You will learn how to analyze your
workplace to ensure your employees, consumers, and guests are protected from violent intruders. This course utilizes the “Run, Hide, Fight” method as a response to an active shooter
situation, as outlined by the Federal Department of Homeland Security. Agenda Topics Include:

• Employer and Employee Responsibilities

Speaker Bio

Gordon Smoko CSP, CFPS, ARM
Senior Risk Manager
Mr. Smoko is a Senior Risk Manager with Brown & Brown Insurance Lehigh Valley, LP. In this role, Mr. Smoko is responsible for delivering safety and risk management services to clients, including risk management assessments, safety training, safety program management and the execution of plans designed to reduce the cost of risk for organizations. With over 30 years of safety and risk management experience, Mr. Smoko has worked with organizations in both the
traditional insurance market as well as many self-insured organizations. Additionally, Mr. Smoko has extensive experience working with organizations in the educational, healthcare, public entity,
retail, distribution, transportation, and industrial sectors. Mr. Smoko earned his undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) and his graduate degree from Wilkes University in Business (MBA) with honors. Mr. Smoko is a Certified Safety Professional(CSP), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) as well as Associate in Risk Management(ARM) credential. He also maintains “Field Safety Representative and Professional Safety Source (AR)” and “Field Safety Representative (TX)” credentials. Mr. Smoko is an active member in the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) having been Chapter President in past years. As Chapter President Mr. Smoko forged a partnership with The Lehigh Valley Safety Council which helps promote the profession throughout the Lehigh Valley. He also was voted by ASSE chapter members to be 2013 “Lehigh Valley Safety Professional of the Year”.

A lifetime resident of the Lehigh Valley, Emily lives in Easton with her Double Doodle, Arlo! She enjoys volunteering, visiting the local farmers market with friends and family, and adventuring with her pup!
